Custom kitchen cabinets in Fresno have to answer to a city with an unusually wide span of housing eras. Fresno runs from 1910s and 1920s bungalows in the Tower District through post-war tracts and out to subdivisions north of Herndon that are barely twenty years old. A cabinet approach that suits one of those houses is frequently wrong for another, which is why we measure and specify per house rather than per package.

What custom cabinetry means in different parts of Fresno
In the Tower District and around Old Fig Garden, where much of the housing dates to the early twentieth century and the landmark fig trees have been there since the 1900s, we are working with plaster over lath, ceilings that vary across a single run, and openings that have not been square in decades. Those kitchens are usually compact by modern standards and were built around a much smaller appliance set. The work is about recovering every inch: taking uppers to the ceiling, replacing a shallow original pantry cupboard with a full height run, and building to the real opening rather than accepting the filler strips a stock layout would demand.
Sunnyside on the southeast side and the tracts built through the 1950s to 1970s present a different problem. Those kitchens are usually galley or L shaped with a soffit above the uppers and eight foot ceilings, so the single highest value change is removing the soffit and running cabinets to the ceiling. North Fresno around Woodward Park is different again: the layouts already work and the ceilings are generous, but the original builder cabinetry is now well into its second decade and the complaint is construction quality rather than floor plan.
How we build for Fresno kitchens
Every kitchen is field measured to the sixteenth after demolition exposes the actual wall, because in a city with this much pre-war housing the wall you measure at the consultation is rarely the wall you build to. Boxes are three quarter inch plywood with dadoed joinery, drawer boxes are dovetailed solid maple on full extension undermount glides, and soft close is standard throughout. For painted kitchens in older Fresno homes we favour MDF door panels, which will not open a witness line at the panel edge when valley humidity swings between summer and fog season.
Why Fresno homeowners choose us
- Built to your measured opening, not to a catalog
- Plywood boxes and dovetailed drawers as standard
- Written lead times and CARB Phase 2 materials
